An Underwater Provo Delight: Turks and Caicos Diving

Turks and Caicos, particularly the isle of Providenciales, is celebrated for its pristine beaches, deep-sea fishing, Caribbean cuisine, and rum bars. Throughout the year, travelers (mainly couples and small families) escape to this Caribbean paradise to unwind, relax, and bask in island sophistication. But it’s also hard to deny the allure of the Atlantic Ocean’s turquoise, crystalline waters, especially when its soft waves are within arm’s reach of Elite Destination Homes’ sleek Turks and Caicos villas. And one of the many ways to explore the Atlantic’s warm aqua is via an underwater dive. Turks and Caicos diving has skyrocketed in popularity over the past two decades, luckily for the curious general public. Turks and Caicos Diving Tours Most top-rated Turks and Caicos diving companies explore the thriving, colorful reefs that line the islands of Providenciales (“Provo”) and Grand Turk. However, Providenciales is a thousand times more accessible than teeny Grand Turk. Regardless, Provo’s reefs, especially those near Grace Bay and Northwest Point, are among the prettiest in the Caribbean. And, believe it or not, most Turks and Caicos scuba teams prefer hosting beginners over seasoned divers—primarily because there’s nothing more heartwarming than observing an awestruck diver who has never swum [...]

Eating Healthy in Turks and Caicos

With a New Year quickly approaching, it’s time to start thinking about your next resolution. The three most common New Year’s resolutions are eating healthier, getting into shape, and losing weight. While all three go hand-in-hand, the first step should always be eating healthier. Once your body starts receiving proper nutrients, you’ll have more energy and a desire to work out, which will eventually lead to losing weight. Eating healthy is easier said than done with a week-long vacation scheduled on the most beautiful island chain in the world: Turks and Caicos. Tropical vacations usually lead to over-indulgence of rare snacks, sugary beverages, and hearty home-cooking. That’s why Elite Destination Homes is here to help with your New Year’s resolution of eating healthier. One of the easiest ways to eat healthy in Turks and Caicos is to cook your own meals in one of our luxury Caribbean villas overlooking the stunning Atlantic Ocean. Healthy Turks and Caicos Restaurants The easiest way to eat well in the Caribbean is to research the best health-conscious Turks and Caicos restaurants. Nearly every restaurant in Turks and Caicos has a healthy option or two, but most cannot match the menus at these three mainstays. [...]

3 Essential Items for your Beach Vacation to the Caribbean

The Caribbean is a magical place, with lush palms and vibrate flowers, where the ocean breeze and waves dance along the shoreline, this stunning beauty ultimately makes for an unforgettable getaway, and when you stay at one of our luxury Caribbean villas, you’ll find more than just the gorgeous views and lovely abodes. Packing for your vacation can seem tough at times, you never know what you might need when you head to the Caribbean, but here at Elite Destination Homes, we’ve got you covered, with our three essential items to pack for your beach vacation of a lifetime. The Right Clothing Everyone has to pack when traveling and it’s important to know how to pack for the places you’re staying. In the Caribbean, the temperatures are tropical and with most of the days being humid, having the right fabrics is crucial. Fabrics like rayon and synthetics don’t allow clothing to breathe, which can increase sweat and keep you warm. Breathable fabrics like cotton and linen are ideal for the Caribbean. As many items with these fabrics are lightweight and tend to wick moisture, you’ll be able to enjoy the entire day in what you’re wearing, plus clothing like this [...]

Release the Kraken!

By Mark Hoiland | Turks & Cacios If you’ve ever tried to go hunting for lobsters, you’ll quickly find that it isn’t as easy as reaching down and scooping them up. On my last trip to the Turks and Caicos, I was out snorkeling in the water behind our villa, and had discovered that there were tail lobsters hanging out after low tide. A number of years prior, on a trip to the Bahamas, I had learned from a local gentleman that the only way to catch lobsters was to hook them. If you aren’t careful, they will quickly bury themselves into whatever rock they were hanging out on, deep into a hole that may not be the smartest to stick your hand into. I decided that I would quickly run into the house and make a hook from a coat hanger, some tape and a stick. When I got back, my hook (quickly made and poorly constructed) promptly fell apart in my effort to hook the lobsters. During all the commotion, I managed to disturb an octopus that had been lolling about near the lobster’s rock. Curious, I hooked the octopus and brought him in to take a better [...]

My New Favorite

By Mark Stevens | Turks and Caicos In my first career I was blessed with the opportunity to travel all over the world and work with people from very different cultures. There simply aren’t words to describe how different the Monday event in Italy was to the Wednesday event in Tokyo. I have since left the life of a “Road Warrior” to the next generation of folks that measure their successes with mileage and yet my passion for travel has never been stronger. These days I prefer places with a very different pace. The Turks and Caicos has become a fast favorite of mine. There is nothing like the calm blue waters off Taylor Bay. I am convinced that there are few beaches in the world that rival the powder white sand, the calm shoulder-deep water and most importantly the lack of people in this protected cove. One could literally take a nap in the 80-degree shallows and not hear another person for hours – perfection! The island is also home to one of my favorite restaurant experiences in the world – Coco Bistro. The restaurant features really tasty and fresh Caribbean inspired food. It is served outdoors under the [...]
